Are you interesting in becoming a part of the Los Angeles Drama Club Family?
The Los Angeles Drama Club is the country’s youngest Shakespeare Troupe. We are an artistic home for children all over Los Angeles where, through the process of putting on a Shakespeare production, they hone their literacy and communication skills, build self esteem, and become part of a true community – many of our kids come to us at 6 or 7, and are still with us, mentoring the younger students, when they graduate from high school. Each Spring, we present Shakespeare Youth Festival LA – four full productions featuring more than 60 kids. We don’t audition, and we offer a variety of scholarships – if a child has the passion, our arms are open.
Registration is held three times per year. Our Summer Session opens registration in March, and begins in June. Our Fall session opens registration in July and begins in September. And our Winter/Spring Session opens registration in November and begins in January.
We encourage interested students to begin with our Summer sessions. We offer a variety of week-long programs that allow a child to see what we are all about in a relaxed and fun environment. We work hard, preparing for the recital held at the end of the week, but we make sure that each child is met with a challenge that he/she can master in a week, and the hard work of rehearsal is mixed with a variety of theater games, and skill-building activities.
Our Fall and Winter/Spring sessions are focused entirely on preparing for our bi-annual Shakespeare Youth Festival LA. Each “class” is spent rehearsing for a play to be presented at the Festival. By registering, you are committing to 14 – 16 weeks of rehearsal, meeting once a week until the last month, when we add intensive weekend and after-school rehearsals, and to all public performances (generally four performances, held Saturday and Sunday of two consecutive weekends). Each Player is expected to spend time outside of class learning lines (and parents are expected to support this – it’s crucial that the child has someone to listen, read cues, etc.)
Scholarships available! We believe that every child who is drawn to this work should be able to participate, so we offer a variety of scholarships – click here for the application form and guidelines. Please do not hesitate to apply!
